The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) conducts revaluations based on a four-year cycle, as per legislation. 2021 was the year of the last revaluation, and the 2025 Revaluation will see assessed values updated to reflect a new base date of January 1, 2023. The legislated base date means that 2025 values reflect a property’s value as of January 1, 2023. Tax Enforcement
Municipal taxes are due December 31 each year. Any arrears after that date are subject to 1% per month penalties. If taxes remain unpaid after two years, a tax lien will be registered against the property. If taxes remain unpaid a further six months, then the property enters into the tax enforcement process as governed by The Tax Enforcement Act.
Understanding Municipal Assessment and Taxation
Property assessment is the process of determining a property's assessed value for tax purposes. The assessed value is not the market value; however, the assessed value will closely resemble a current market value for most properties. All properties are reassessed every four years, the latest one done in 2021. If there have been no changes to your property since the reassessed value change in 2021, there will be no changes until 2025. The Town of Arborfield uses the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) to calculate and update all assessments within the municipality. SAMA performs annual maintenance updates to properties showing an increase or decrease in assessment.
