Small Business Loan Program: Promoting Economic Development In Arborfield and Area For New and Existing Business
People in Rural Saskatchewan want the opportunity to remain in their community and earn a living. This program is just the tool to allow someone to start a business that might not otherwise have been started.
The Small Business Loan program is intended to extend financing beyond traditional means and contributes to the success of the small entrepreneur.
We provide support to entrepreneurs in the Region helping develop business ideas into reality. This service has provided $196,000 in financial assistance to 36 businesses in our community since it’s beginning. Currently the Arborfield Small Business Loans Association has 12 clients and over $85,000.00 loaned out (as of April 10th, 2006).
Who Are We: Arborfield Rural Development Corporation has been administering Small Business Loans since 1989. The intent of the program is to provide an alternative avenue of financing which enables the small business sector to seize the opportunities to create new jobs and expand existing businesses. We have assisted a variety of businesses ranging from wild boar ranches to berry farms and greenhouses, construction companies to bed and breakfasts, and an assortment of retail businesses.
Advantages include:
- Businesses who may have trouble accessing financing through traditional means have access to low interest rates
- Interest paid stays in the community to facilitate other projects and encourage economic development
What We Do: The Arborfield Small Business Loans Co-operation provides loans of up to $15,000 to new and existing businesses in Arborfield and area. Businesses can use funding to purchase assets, such as equipment, supplies or inventory. They cannot use the money for operating expenses or for repayment of existing debt. Loans are granted at a 6% interest rate. Businesses have up to five years to repay their loan with the exception of:
• Computer loans have a maximum of 3 years
• Inventory loans have a maximum of 2 years
What You Need To Apply: When you apply for a loan with our co-operation, we require a detailed statement of your plans and a projected income/expense picture. You will meet with a loan representative to discuss the details of your plan. At this meeting, you will complete an Application for Financing, a Demand Promissory Note and a Security Agreement. Also, a fee of $60.00 to the Minister of Finance will be needed from you to cover credit searches and application charges You will find this to be an easy and relaxing process as these members are business people.
What Happens After You Apply: After you apply, your loan application will be reviewed. Your credit rating and references will be checked. The loan application will then be sent to the Credit Committee. This committee will review your application and make a decision as to the viability of the loan. When the loans committee approves the loan, it will be sent to Saskatchewan Economic Development for final approval. A cheque will be issued when Sask Economic and Cooperative Development processes your loan by.people just like you
What We Need From You After You Receive Your Loan: Once your loan is approved, in order for you to receive any funds, we will need the following things from you:
1. Either copies of paid receipts or invoices to you showing the exact cost of purchases.
2. Post-dated cheques to begin repayment of your loan.
